David Eustace - Old Coats

This is a portrait of a grumpy duo, in their familiar setting of the local pub. The dog fits jigsaw like into the sheltering arm of the man with the four fingers of the man echoing the legs of the dog, which in turn suggests the legs of the table. The glass, like an egg timer measures the passing of time. A dog’s skin is often referred to as a coat and I have made a play of this in the title. The two coats seen are worn and heavy, sadly the grumpy duo will share the same fate but they do so in each other’s company. You are never alone with a dog.
